This is what an illegal counterfeit GBA game looks like on the inside. Many of these are sold on ebay, so be careful when buying online or when buying used games. They are unreliable pieces of junk and you'll have many problems (especially with saves).

This save type can only hold a very small amount of data, which is why it isn't used in many games.

Flash

This save type can hold the most amount of data, but is slow at saving. It's used in games with lots of customization.

Pokemon has a battery, but it's not for save functions, it's for the realtime clock. Notice the silver cylinder in the top left corner? That's the quartz crystal. If the battery dies you'll probably still be able to save, but you just wont be able to do any clock stuff (like berries).

This save type is the only one that requires a battery. Nintendo seems to have stopped using SRAM for GBA games in 2002. Now FeRAM is used instead.
